SECME enhances the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) by providing hands-on experiences for elementary, middle and high school students. SECME encourages students to enroll in challenging courses and to pursue degrees in engineering, mathematics, and the sciences.

Teachers who sponsor the SECME program in each school attend local in-service training that emphasizes hands-on innovative mathematics and science lessons. During the summer, teachers also have the opportunity to attend a twelve-day national institute conducted by the college of engineering at one of the 40 national SECME affiliated universities.

Discover Engineering Online is a web site that lets students investigate a host of engineering achievements. Aimed at inspiring interest in engineering among America's youth, the site is a vast resource that will tantalize its users to take a serious look at engineering.
